How is Extreme Mayan Adventures different from other tour agencies?

Extreme Mayan Adventures is different than other tour operators/agencies because it has a profound connection with the Kaqchikel Mayan community. We DO NOT offer a generic service of guided walks that you can take all by yourself without help. We offer an extreme, educational, and unique adventure that provides total immersion in the Kaqchikel culture. We are different because:

  1. We are socially responsible.
  2. We provide you with the opportunity to really get to know the Mayan people, as opposed to observing them from the outside.
  3. We provide an educational experience.
  4. Our trips are physically active.

Of course she can! We like to attend to our clients' individual needs and desires. This means that we will change our travel packages to fit the individual needs and desires of every unique customer.

What do I do if I can't or don't want to do a job that I am asked to do during my stay? What should I do if I need to stop something?

You are never obligated to do anything. Some of the work in the village is difficult. We always try to make sure that you don't get in over your head, however, if there is something you don't want to do or if you get tired, you always have the option to refuse or stop doing something. We want a trip with us to be educational not a forced labor camp.

Is there food for vegetarians or vegans?

Is there food for vegetarians or vegans?

Yes, if you are vegetarian or vegan there are many things you can eat here. Some of the vegetarian delights in the Mayan diet include:

  • wild plants and herbs
  • vegetable soup
  • black beans
  • rice
  • hand made tortillas
  • tamalitos
  • fresh fruit

How difficult are your trips?

Our extreme travel packages aren't for just anybody. Our trips give the traveler a close up and personal look at Mayan culture by offering direct participation and total immersion. Life in the village isn't always easy. Splitting firewood and carrying heavy objects are part of the daily routine here while many of the houses are very rustic. That said, however, every house does provide warm food, purified water, and a bed to sleep on (unless you wish to try the traditional petate, but hey, that's up to you).

Is there purified water in the houses?

Is there purified water in the houses?

Yes, we provide purified water in every house.

Is transportation from Guatemala City and Lake Atitlán included in the travel package?

Is transportation from Guatemala City and Lake Atitlán included in the travel package?

Yes, we provide round trip shuttle bus service to and from Lake Atitlán. It is included in the price of the package.

Is an Extreme Mayan Adventure all work? How much work is expected of me?

Is an Extreme Mayan Adventure all work? How much work is expected of me?

Of course not! Yes, we provide the opportunity to learn the chores and village work but we're not running a forced labor camp. The goal of Extreme Mayan Adventures is to teach and share our culture. During a trip with us, we make sure to provide many moments of rest. We also give you time to enjoy the beautiful country side. The amount of work you do is decided by you. If you really enjoy Mayan village work and want to do it all the time, you can. If you don't want to do anything, you don't have to do anything. It's up to you!
